This is the poor person’s Chateauneuf du Pape. Intense, brilliant garnet-red color, with aromas of woody herbs and ripe red berries. A gorgeous wine, rich, full-bodied, ripe, with sweet tannins, garrigue (fresh herbs of Provence), lavender, black cherry jam and licorice. The body is smooth and creamy with elegant tannins. The lingering finish is dominated by spices and truffles with supple tannins.

Lots of fruit and that flinty earth taste. ripe, flashy, fleshy fruit, but there is an underlying complexity and poise here as well. Quite aromatic, with plums, blackberry, lavender, and tar. Comes across as Syrah-like, although the major varietal here is Grenache. Deep and layered, with admirable length.

91pts Robert Parker.

Languedoc.

Effusively fruity and creamy, with well-defined flavors of red currant, wild plum and boysenberry that are matched with seductive notes of sandalwood. Blood orange and dark chocolate give this an added layer of intensity, with a refined finish.
